The event will allow interested foreign participants to extend their stay in Uganda, before the Business Forum to visit factories, sites and hold bilateral follow-up meetings with local entrepreneurs in Kampala and other regions of Uganda. The SB4U will work closely with the PSFU and UIA to help organize such visits and meetings. Foreign participants will be invited to register for such meetings and visits with the SB4U Secretariat at the Forum. The Registration Form will also have provisions to capture such requests for visits and meetings.

The session will bring together both the demand and supply sides of capital. That is, the private equity (PE) and venture capital (VC) investors that deploy capital of over USD 500,000 in Uganda and investee companies that can absorb this amount of capital. Through this session, the DFF will share its learnings in the market and showcase some of the investee companies it has successfully matched and the investors that have found value in the facility. Through the session, the DFF will : i) Shine a light on the mandate and work of the DFF with the view of drawing in and onboarding more stakeholders; ii) Share progress on already matched transactions and; iii) Will provide a platform for idea exchange from across the ecosystem.

- Workshop - “Access to finance in the renewable energy sector”
(Interactive session hosted and organised by GIZ)
Renewable energy and clean energy investments are key to achieving a clean and just energy transition. To date, however, the pipeline for clean energy investments and financially viable business models is low. This has impeded increased energy access and uptake of renewable energy technologies. To address this challenge, GIZ has over time partnered with different stakeholders to improve the framework conditions for renewable energy development and increase the number of financially viable renewable energy projects that can scale up/ be supported to scale up, to attract adequate financing volume.
Main Objective: The workshop presents an opportunity to share market information on; existing financing networks in the sector and how they are being leveraged, best practices, barriers to accessing clean energy finance, financing models and building financially viable renewable energy business models, among others

Parallel Session 1 – Agriculture & Agri-Business
Agriculture is the main driver of Uganda’s economy, employing over 60% of the workforce and contributing nearly 40% to GDP. Uganda is now determined to strengthen its “Farm to Fork” value-chain development in key areas in which Uganda has both comparative and competitive advantages in both agriculture production as well as value-added agro-processing. Parallel Session 3 – Tourism and Hospitality (The session will be hosted by Enabel)
Tourism is an important sector to the Ugandan economy. The main features of the Ugandan tourism industry include wildlife and nature tourism- game and bird viewing, boating and water sports, hiking and mountain climbing.
Prior to the advent of COVID-19, Uganda received over 1.5 million tourist arrivals and generated 7.75% of GDP and 6.7% of total employment. This sector has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 related travel and health restrictions. Now that the sector is recovering, huge potentials exist for investment in the entire tourism and hospitality value chains, including accommodation & lodging, food & beverages, recreation & entertainment, MICE, travel & tours, sustainable development, waste management, infrastructure development, agriculture, creative and cultural industries, marketing &promotion, among others.

Parallel Session 8 – E-Governance & competitiveness
This session will discuss how Uganda can reap the benefits of e-governance in the fight against corruption to contribute to a favourable business environment and investment climate, thus improving Uganda’s attraction as an investment destination.
The focus of this session will be on how digitalization and Information Communication Technology (ICT) opens up new opportunities for the prevention, detection and prosecution of corruption. This includes the rollout of e-government systems for improving public procurement and the promotion of digital tools and data integration in streamlining services to help curb corruption.
The session will start with a brief presentation by of the Private-Sector Led Corruption Reporting Facility, which was developed by Enabel and PSFU under the EU-funded SG+ project and provides a concrete example of how digital tools can be used in creating platforms for information sharing and dialogue between private and public actors.

Parallel Session 9 – Business & Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence
Companies are increasingly focussed on mitigating the risk of adverse social and environmental impacts of their operations. A growing body of national and international regulation in this area is also shaping this conversation. In recent years, the UN, OEDC and ILO introduced voluntary mechanisms focussed on business and human rights, responsible business conduct and labour rights. In February 2022, the European Commission provided significant impetus to these discussions through the publication of a proposal for a new Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). By making human rights and environmental due diligence mandatory for certain companies, the Directive will bring positive benefits for communities, companies and partner countries alike. This initiative aligns well with Uganda’s own efforts to develop an enabling policy and regulatory space in which responsible and sustainable business practices can be supported.

The SB4U will work closely with the PSFU and UIA to help organize such visits and meetings. Foreign participants will be invited to register for such meetings and visits with the SB4U Secretariat at the Forum. The Registration Form will also have provisions to capture such requests for visits and meetings.
