Fred Muwema is a legal practitioner of 25 years standing. As a founding partner of Muwema & Co. Advocates, one of the premier law firms in Uganda, Fred has been and he remains a known quantity in delivering effective creative legal solutions in various aspects of public and private law.
He is a cause driven Advocate of social justice who has handled numerous outstanding cases in constitutional and administrative law, tax administration, corporate finance and other aspects of commercial law. He is credited with enabling the development of jurisprudence in regulation of anonymous defamation on social media when he filed the first case in this regard in 2016, in Ireland against Facebook.
Fred has keen interest in protecting intellectual property through his management of the largest anti-counterfeit legal practice in Uganda. Together with behavioral change experts and other professionals, he founded the Anti-Counterfeit Network (ACN) which aims to bridge the communication gaps between various stakeholders who affect and are affected by counterfeits and fake products in Africa. ACN believes that creating more awareness about the concealed dangers of counterfeits takes a lead in denying them a market to grow.
Outside legal practice, he is a former Administrator of the Federation of Uganda Football Association and a former President of Sports Club Villa, the most successful football club in Uganda. He is part of the team that introduced live television broadcast of the Ugandan football league and was key in creating the existing legal regulatory framework for all sports Associations in Uganda between 2009 – 2013.
