
Jonathan Maraka
Jonathan is a Project Leader with Open Capital, a management consulting and financial advisory firm that has completed over 1,000 engagements and raised USD 1 billion for businesses across 25 countries in Africa. Over the past 6 years, Jonathan has worked with investors, businesses and development partners in the renewable energy sector across 8 countries in East, West, and Southern Africa.
He has worked across supply and demand sides of the finance landscape including providing renewable energy companies with technical assistance to improve strategies to scale and raise capital as well as supporting private investment firms and local banks develop market entry strategies for the sector and deploy capital. He has written reports published through programs funded by the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and Shell Foundation on access to finance, taxes, subsidies and other regulatory framework themes in the renewable energy sector focusing on Uganda, Malawi, Rwanda and Sierra Leone. Jonathan most recently led a team that developed a market landscape study on Uganda's productive use of energy including an assessment of the regulatory and finance landscape. This study was informing interventions of a 5-year donor funded program aimed at deploying USD 140M in renewable energy, agriculture, and healthcare sectors in Uganda.
