Joseph Nkandu is a coffee value chain leader and social entrepreneur who has spearheaded promotion of Uganda coffee exports with empowerment of over 1.5 million smallholder farmers leading to increased farmer income by 250%. Joseph is a compassionate leader who has created 200 rural community based coffee farmers’ enterprises as associations that are business and impact oriented.
Joseph has established two national social enterprises; NUCAFE as Uganda’s largest coffee industry entrepreneurial employer and CURAD as Uganda’s largest agribusiness incubator.
Joseph is the innovator of the Farmer ownership model, a model that liberates farmers from inequality and poverty in agricultural value chains.
Joseph successfully convinced Government of Uganda to formulate the first ever National Coffee Policy.
Joseph has received many notable ones being an Ashoka Fellow.
Joseph holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from Makerere University and a Master of Business Administration from Italy.
